Being With: Advanced Microskills for Conducting Therapy

Whether you struggle with high client turnover and low retention or just want to sharpen tools in your therapeutic toolbox, this workshop will provide a deep dive into the use of intentional micro counseling skills to connect with clients more deeply, strategically guide therapeutic sessions with confidence, handle complex or difficult interactions in the therapy session and ensure your clients experience your genuine empathy, unconditional regard, and authenticity.

Learning Objectives:

• Identify, describe, and demonstrate 5 attunement skills and their intentional use in building connection and safety in the therapy session
• Be able to describe and demonstrate the use of 5 exploring stage microskills to deepen content and awareness to move beyond client’s current understanding
• Assess client readiness and apply skills to productively meet clients where they are
• Be able to describe and demonstrate 5 dissonance skills paired with one’s theoretical orientation to ensure a productive therapeutic session
• Assess the difference between the use of microskills with theoretical conceptualization and without
• Explain microskills within the frame of one’s theoretical approach as evidenced by
• Analyze stuck points in a therapeutic session and be able to strategically apply appropriate microskills to productively move client sessions forward
